The Seagull: Winner of Toulonforever 2026 Photo Competition
For many years, my world was measured in knots, tides, and the snap of the wind off the coast of Howth. As a fisherman, you develop a deep, unspoken relationship with the sea. You learn to read the sky like a map and predict the weather by the changing color of the swell. It’s a hard, beautiful life—one that stays in your blood long after you step off the deck.
When I traded the trawler nets for a camera lens, I brought that salty, weatherwise eye with me.
Photography, to me, isn't just about capturing a pretty scene. It is about patience, timing, and respect for nature’s moods. Whether I am standing on the wind-swept cliffs of Dublin Bay, watching the sunrise over the Baily Lighthouse, or exploring the vibrant, sun-drenched coastlines of the French Mediterranean, I am always looking for that fleeting moment where light and water tell a story.
The story behind The Seagull
This brings me to a milestone I am incredibly proud to share. Recently, my photograph titled "The Seagull" was named the winner of the
Toulonforever 2026 Photo Competition.
Winning this award in Toulon is a beautiful full-circle moment for me. Toulon and its surrounding coastal scenes are a striking contrast to the moody, dramatic skies of Ireland, yet they share the exact same raw, maritime energy.
"The Seagull" was born from hours of simply waiting. In fishing, if you don't have patience, you catch nothing. The same rules apply here. I wanted to capture the ultimate master of the coastline—the seagull—in a moment of absolute freedom against the backdrop of the Mediterranean.

Through my fine art prints, my goal is to bring a piece of that coastal magic into your home. I want to infuse your space with the same color, shifting light, and calm clarity that I look for every time I look out at the horizon.
